AIDS had its epi-center, beginning its global effect, from Kinshasa.  From here AIDS has affected this nation for over 30 years, bringing with this higher rates in areas, than the entire continent of Africa.  Currently, AIDS rates hover around 5% in the Nationally, but areas on the outskirts of the Capital are closer to 7% (Mpasa region) with areas outside of Goma exceeding 12%.  BANDING Together is focusing on HIV Education Programs and HIV Testing, bring the knowledge of this disease and how it can be prevented and treated to those in the RDC. 

We are trying to bring change to the understanding of this disease, how it is transmitted and prevented.  Many affected become ostracized, leading to the inability to work, to provide for their families and afford the needed drugs to remain healthy.  Many believe that AIDS is a death sentence, when infact the disease takes years to even present basic symptoms, year that affected individuals can still be a vital part of society.
